What are the age and school requirements for entrants?
Students must have been enrolled in a high school when the film was completed.  Films must have been completed within a year of submission.  So, a college freshman, who finished their film during their senior year, could also submit.

Is there a fee for submission?
No!  Thanks to our generous sponsors, no fee is required to enter the festival.

I'm not ready!  Can I submit a rough cut?
Our judges can't tell how much time you will be able to spend on your film between the date you submit and the date of any screening. Therefore, what we see is what we get.

Can I submit a film in another language besides English?
As long as the film is subtitled in English, we will be glad to accept it.

Does the festival provide travel and accomodations?
Unfortunately, at this time we do not.  However, we would be happy to suggest places for you to stay near the beach!

What is so special about the SoCal Student Film Festival?
Every year, we host industry professional workshops and a red carpet mixer.  This year, we are a national event!

Is there a separate documentary category?
Yes, Best Documentary is one of the awards given.  All non-fiction not considered a News Spot Feature will be considered "documentary."

Do you have a separate animation category?
Yes, Best Animation is one of the awards given.  Stop action, hand-drawn, and 2-D and 3-D animation are a part of the same category.

How long does it take to hear from the judges?
The judging will be complete by April 1, 2016.

Can I get my physical submission back?
We will be glad to send any physical submission back to the sender, as long as they provided a self-addressed, stamped envelope with their submission.

Can multiple entries be sent on the same screener?
Yes.  However, the provider must indicate for which category each entry is being submitted, along with the filmmaker's name, school name, and title of the piece.

How many films may I submit?
You can submit as many as you would like.  Try to send your best work, though.

If selected, what format do I need to have to screen my film?
The preferred format is QuickTime (.mov).

How many schools participate in the festival?
1000's of schools from across the country were invited.  How many participate is up to them.

Who are the festival jurors?
The films will be preliminarily judged by a committee of students, educators, and industry professionals.  Finalists will be selected by industry professionals from that genre of filmmaking.  For example:  Best Commercial will be selected by an advertising agency.

How can I get tickets to the screenings?
Filmmakers whose films are selected will receive three complementary tickets to the festival.  Tickets are available to be reserved for will call by sending us an email at socalsff@gmail.com.  We will have electronic ticket purchasing available soon.

I'm an industry professional.  How can I get involved?
Any industry professional or potential sponsor can reach us by calling or emailing us directly.  We would like to invite you to help sponsor an award, assist with judging, or participate in a workshop session or panel discussion.
